Sabrina (Beishi) Hao

Hi! 

Starting October 2026, I'm a research associate in theoretical philosophy at the University of Hamburg. I received my PhD in philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh in 2025. Before that, I received my MS in Physics from Pitt and my BS from NYU. 

My research lies primarily at the intersection of the philosophy of physics, philosophy of science, epistemology, and metaphysics. I am interested in understanding how we acquire knowledge of the unobservable aspects of physical reality through scientific theories and practices.

My dissertation focuses specifically on how attending to the details of experimental practices, alongside formal and abstract theories, can help us better anchor elements of reality. Currently, I'm interested in using the Bayesian framework to develop a more precise account of local realist commitments.

I also work on Daoism in Chinese philosophy. I'm particularly interested in interpreting Daoist philosophy in the framework of Western analytic tradition. 

I was born and raised in Guangzhou, China. Besides English, I speak both Mandarin and Cantonese. I can also speak a little bit of German.
